Bee-mimic Beetle (Trichiotinus assimilis) (Kirby 1837)

 

Synonyms: Trichius bistriga, Trichius variabilis; hairy flower scarab

 

 

Trichiotinus assimilis occurs across southern Canada and northern United States, and also in the Rocky Mountains south to Arizona and New Mexico. The adult is 7-12 mm long. These beetles are usually seen on flowers, feeding on pollen and nectar in June and July, e.g., on Swamp Milkweed (Asclepias incarnata) in the photos below.
